Summers: I enjoyed my visit to Texas State

Leander HS defensive back Martel Summers is a player that you don’t doubt his talents. With speed, size and range, Summers can do it all. Colleges from all over the country have noticed but as he prepares for his senior season, two school are sticking out.

“Northwestern and Texas State are my top two,” said Summers.

Leander HS DB Martel Summers will make his college decision in September.

Its well known that Summers could play multiple positions in college and it doesn’t matter to him where he plays.

“I’ll probably end up playing corner in college but I feel comfortable playing corner or safety,” said Summers.

His initial summer plans were to visit both Northwestern and Texas State but he failed to make it up and visit the Wildcats football program. He just came back from his second visit to Texas State in a course of a week.

“It’s been a busy summer for me visiting Texas State and filming a movie in Victoria. I also went through our (Leander HS) summer football camp,” said Summers. “I really enjoyed my visit to Texas State. I got chance to sit down and speak with everyone, I really enjoyed their coaching staff and players. ”

With his visits done he has some factors he is looking for in his future college and one that holds dear to him.

“I’d like to go somewhere that I can be success both on and off the field. I like to play my freshman year in college and only one school has told me that, it was Texas State,” said Summers. “I would like to stay close so that my mom and brother have a chance to watch me play. That means more to me than anything else. ”

Summers plans on ending his recruiting at some point in September and one school has a slight edge.

“I plan on deciding sometime in mid-September and after my visit to Texas State, they may stand a little bit higher in my book. I wanted to visit Northwestern this summer, I just didn’t get a chance,” Summers said.

Texas State defensive backs coach Jason Washington is recruiting Summers for the Bobcats.
